The three Directors of Loan Lease Finance are:
Michael Tweddell.
Having been trained in the Steel Industry he purchased a run down Engineering Company in Willenhall,Staffs some 35 years ago and built it up to a turnover of over £1million. As the years progressed due to keen competition and excessive demands from the local Union, plus a run down in its field serving the Meat Trade in particular when refrigeration came to the fore, he disposed of the Property and amalgamated the business with another Engineering Company. This gave him a good grounding in running a Company, dealing with Factors, coupled with other aspects of finance. This lead to the idea of setting up as a Commercial Finance Broker in partnership with Stephen Pike. We,therefore set up Loan Lease Finance having been advised by the Loan Consultants who are one of the the biggest Commercial Finance Brokers in the USA. Their remit in the UK is to advise Brokers who sign up as "affiliates" and offer them the full backing of their worldwide lending library.Ron Stather joined us later when we became a limited Company. Michael's main hobby is playing golf, where he achieved a scratch handicap and represented his County, Worcestershire, for a number of years and was also County Captain. He is also a member of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (the R & A).
Stephen Pike
Stephen had his first real taste of the business world in 1973 at the age of 19 while at Southbank College in Westminster studying for a business degree. With three fellow students they formed SKAS - an import/export company specialising in raffia, cane furnishings and ceramics. Needless to say starting capital was very limited and operational budgets very tight, however a very substantial customer base was established including Harods, Harvey Nichols, Biba, Miss Selfridges, Top Shop, Covent Garden General Store and many more - the company was at the head of the raffia clutch bag fashion mania in the 70's. After several years of successful trading (and having gained his degree), the partners agreed to go their separate ways and the assets sold off to an associate group.
Stephen then entered the world of shipping. Working for a major Japanese shipping company he gained experience in ship chartering and management. It was during this period while working in the City of London that he viewed the river Thames and saw a major opportunity in an under utilised asset. A corporate vehicle was set up with a business colleague called Thamesway Enterprises Ltd. for the purpose of promoting a high speed river passenger and commuter service and floating hotel (to be moored near the Tower of London). An extensive feasibility study was conducted, business plan produced and prospective strategic partners identified including Virgin Group, Dockland Development Corporation and London Tourist Board. Although the project did not attain the critical core funding required to launch the service, it provided an extremely valuable insight into the dynamics of a new start business venture and the workings of the venture capital and business angel networks and risk mitigation.
After this, Stephen has been involved in a number of corporate ventures which he owned or co-owned including computer consumable supplies, vending machine operations, food production, credit control and new energy saving products. All these activities have provided a very useful insight into business operations and financing options.Having met Michael Tweddell who approached Stephen to form Loan Lease Finance,he was delighted to do so as he felt his background was well suited to the objects of the business.
